The PEDALS Preschool Program implements Second Step Early Learning in classrooms for young learners.
Customized to your classroom needs.
Second Step is a universal, evidence-based SEL toolkit for preschool-age children ages 3-5.
Our Preschool Program can be tailored to support any play-based approach. It uses daily lessons and interactive activities featuring puppets, music, games, books, and other visual aids to guide educators in teaching young children how to listen, pay attention, manage their behavior, and get along with others.
Steps to success.
Second Step Early Learning has been shown to improve young students’ executive-function skills—like attention, memory, and self-control—which are not only predictive of kindergarten readiness but are essential for success in and outside the classroom.
When students enter kindergarten with the self-regulation and social-emotional skills taught with evidence-based Second Step Early Learning, they’re set up for success.
Early learning made easy.
The Preschool Program is simple for educators to use and is designed to keep children engaged. Skills and concepts are taught through short, daily activities that take 5 to 7 minutes each, with little or no preparation time needed.
Each unit comprises six weeks of lessons, including:
- Skills for Learning: Listening; focusing attention; using self-talk; being assertive
- Empathy: Identifying one’s own and others’ feelings; taking others’ perspectives; showing care and concern for others
- Emotion Management: Understanding strong feelings; identifying one’s own strong feelings; calming down strong feelings
- Friendship Skills and Problem-Solving: Making and keeping friends; calming down and using problem-solving steps
- Transitioning to Kindergarten: Reviewing program skills and concepts; thinking about how program skills will help in kindergarten
